So while a little more in-your-face, resource caps seem better for balancing the game economy especially if we want our developers focused on making new stuff instead of handling conversion for old stuff they make obsolete by economy shake-ups. We saw this especially in Destiny 1 where at launch Ascendant Energy and Ascendant Shards were the most sought after items for 6-8 weeks, but then were largely useless in favor of Radian Energy and Shards, which were made obsolete first by Etheric Light and later infusion in Taken King. Shadowkeep inflated it to the equivalent of 403 cores (3 cores, 3 Prisms at 10 cores conversion, 1 shard at 10 prisms conversion).ĭuring this inflation, which accomplishes a soft reset of the economy, you get a lot of artifacts of the past and a strong desire players to get usefulness out of their formerly valuable now useless items, requiring developer effort to create a player-respectful conversion for these items that also doesn't throw off the economy reset that made them fall out of favor.
